Learn the fundamentals of Japanese calligraphy with Kyoko Hunt.

The beautiful and ancient art of Japanese Calligraphy is still practiced today throughout Japan and many other countries of the world. Japanese calligraphy uses only a brush, black ink and rice paper. Learning Japanese calligraphy helps you to gain better control of the brush, thus making you a better artist fundamentally. This study helps you learn the Japanese language, about artistic design and balance and many other aspects of art. Japanese calligraphy concepts can be applied to other art media such as ceramics, watercolor painting and printmaking. The study of Japanese calligraphy helps you to become calm and create from your center.

Kyoko grew up in Kyoto, the ancient capital and cultural center of Japan, and studied Japanese painting for many years in Kyoto. She studied Japanese calligraphy under Jushoku Mitachi, a Buddhist monk. Kyoko taught painting in Kyoto for many years and her artwork is in private collections throughout the world.
